Expectation for Camp

Twenty four hours for the year 8’s to prepare themselves for camp also to be filled with laughter and gladness. What i’d like to expect there is the students to know the 3 p’s - Participation, Partnership also, Protection.

Packing my bright,  pink suitcase filled with all the stuff I will be needing, I headed to our school hall with all the other lovely students bags.

This is an awesome opportunity to fill their life full with excitement and to have fun.

Deadly snake causes panic in school classroom

I have read an article on Kiwi kids News about a deadly snake appeared in a nursery's schools classroom. According to the article itself, A teacher had spotted the snake slithering through the children's beds so, The teacher had rushed the children out into the playground safely, Luckily nobody was hurt. The school set a emergency snake plan so whenever any venomous snake comes around, they'd escape easily once they think of the snake plan.

Swimming.

Yesterday was the day that our class had swimming, Sadly enough to say some students, including me, forgot to bring our swimming gear. We sat outside the pool and did some work about, Surviving in swimming.

Once we got told to be partnered up we were given a sheet that showed a poster also a lot of questions that us students had to answer.

The poster that had shown on the paper was a boat that was flipped over, survival equipment and a man holding on to a Chilly Bin, I could see that this man was in danger also looking for help. Luckily enough, he was wearing a life jacket which helps him to float rather than sinking in the sea.

Once the swimmers had finished and had gotten out of the pool, The non swimmer’s had successfully, finished the sheet.

Manaiakalani Film Festival!

In the Afternoon, The senior block had Manaiakalani Film Festival. Manaiakalani are movies that were made from different schools in this community. These schools put together an interesting project for the students that comes along to watch and to enjoy.

What I really enjoyed from these interesting movies was how a class from our school, gathered up a comedy film for schools to have a moment, and laugh.

It was a really great time to watch these movies and hope for the best that I could ever watch them again.

Drought!

Last week, It was a very unusual day for Miri. Once Miri got up, out of her bed, and had gotten ready for school. The first session of the day was writing an imaginative story. Miri was filled
with drought in the whether she was in. Apparently, Pete, a kind boy was sitting at the back her, also she would stay in Pete’s House once Miri’s Father would finish at a hard time at work.  It took her forever to come up with an imaginative story for Miri. It was home time and Miri’s teacher told her to take as many time as she’d like to come up with. Miri told her if it’s supposed to be fiction or fact? Her teacher replied with a simple sigh “ hm.. anything Miri” And of she went.

Later on, She thought of an interesting story that came from her imagination, Once she finished, She gave it to her teacher and had Aced the test.

Dangers Of Smoking

The dangers of smoking is that it causes diseases of your heart, lungs and brain. Smoking increases the chances of getting these diseases.

Smoking may cause lung cancer disease. The risk of developing lung cancer is the abnormal cells that appear in the lining of the main breathing tube which forms new cells and replaces the old cells.  Stroke may affect the brain. Smoking causes heart disease, this effects your heart and veins.

 Some say, if you smoke at a younger age you die earlier. You could die from;
  • Lung cancer - Men developing lung cancer; 23 times more likely;
  • Lung cancer - Chances of women developing lung cancer is 13 times more likely;
  • Stroke - The possibility of having to get a stroke from smoking is 2 to 4 times.
  • Heart Disease - 2 to 4 times more likely.
I think that this is an issue for many people's health, Now that you've read some of this information about smoking would you still start this deadly habit?

An Awesome Experience

Filling my body up with exhaustion this running was tiring. The distance so far had caught my eye and had made my legs impossible to move. Heading out towards the Pt England Reserve made me feel icky having to  my foot come pass that slimy, sticky, mud stuck to my shoes & up to my knees. As much as I wanted to walk the whole way I had a lot of support from the students on the side of me telling me to push myself into running.

Going through the Tamaki Area made me much more Nervous of seeing how slippery it was to run so I walked instead. Once we were near the finish line me & some of the friends I was with started hearing cheers for their house colours. Finally, I made it. It wasn't that big of a deal of who came 1st, 2nd or 3rd it was how we had much fun and being a sore loser.

After that, the students from Year 7 & 8 had seen some stunts on youtube that our teachers had shown in our street on the projector. It was really epic to see and we all had enjoyed it. What a fun, exotic Friday we all had.

Thanks to Dakota for checking my work.

Jesse Owens Inspires Me.

Jesse Owens

Jesse Owens is the one who inspires me by his achievement in the olympic games by winning four gold medals in the 100m sprint , the long jump, the 200m sprint and last but not least the 4x100m relay team.

Owens was the youngest out of ten children and was born in Oakville, Alabama. Firstly, His real name is James Cleveland. At the age of 9, His family moved to Cleveland, Ohio for better opportunities. When his new teacher wanted his name, he spoke his initials ‘ J.C ‘ short for James Cleveland. With a strong southern accent Owens had, The teacher thought he said ‘ Jesse ‘. The name took, and he was known as Jesse for the rest of his life.

Owens worked for two different jobs within his spare time by working in a shoe repair shop, delivering groceries and loading freight cars. During the period of time, Owens discovered he had a passion for running. Throughout his life, he spent a lot of time on his athletic career to the encouragement of Charles Riley, His junior high track coach at the school, Fairmount Junior High School. Charles Riley allowed him to practice before school instead.

Owens had died in Tucson, Arizona on the date, March 31st, 1980. Many supporters wouldn’t forget of his athletic success.

I want to be like Jesse Owens because he never gives up on anything and
practice, practice, practice makes perfect.

First ever plane Flew without using any fuel

In the Article I have read from the past couple of weeks was about a first ever plane without using any fuel flew from Switzerland and it happened to have landed in Morocco. What happened was that the flying wings were covered in solar panels which turns the sun rays into electricity and what makes the plane powered up. It had happened to have been tested by the plane Engineers.

It was a miracle having a first ever plane fly around for such a long time without using any fuel, Luckily it hadn't fall.

Van Gogh's Life Time

Vincent Van Gogh was born on the date 30th March 1853 , by a woman named Anna Cornelia Carbentus , Vincent wasn’t the only child. He had 5 siblings named Elisabeth, Anna & Wil which were his 3 sisters & had 2 brothers named Theo & Cor.

In his early life he spent the last couple of years with non attention on his art & artistic qualities from his brother, Theo, helping him to become a famous painter.

One of Vincent Van gogh’s Artistic Influences was Paul Gauguin another famous painter. They first met in Paris, on the date November 1887. Vincent Van gogh decided that he would set up an exhibit for the people who Van Gogh called the Impressionist of the Petit Boulevard. After Paul Gauguin saw the exhibit of Vincent Van Gogh he decided to trade in one of his arts, Van gogh’s 2 sunflowers.

As you can see, Vincent Van Gogh's life time was indeed stressing but had his work published by the time he needed it to be.

Whats the Drink for me?

WHAT’S THE DRINK FOR ME?

What would you chose out of these drinks: coffee, tea, soft drink or water?

For everyone in the world I think the fantastic idea is to choose plain water. It doesn’t have any sugar content. It re-hydrates the body after hard work and sport. It helps flush your kidneys and keep them healthy. Best of all it’s free!.

A cup of coffee is instantly unhealthy for kids because it concerns Caffeine. This can effect your mind. This type of drink is not for me.

The drink ‘Tea’ is sometimes comfortable for me to drink. But adding a lot of sugar to the ingredient makes it sweeter for me to taste so sometimes I have my ups and downs drinking this type of hot drink.

The drink ‘Soft Drink’ can be a sugary matter. it is formed from lemon and other ingredients. I only drink this kind of drink sometimes in the weekdays or when I'm thirsty.

So... The drink for me is nice, cold, Water or a plain ole Soft Drink.

Camp Reflection.

For 3 whole days us, year 7 & 8 students has been participated into activities that our teachers has prepared for us for our 2012 camp and one of our camp activities we’ve been invited to do was called ‘The Amazing Race’. One of our teachers, Mr Barks had produced the activity to our group, ‘Respect Squad’ of how to do it and what the rules are, once Mr Barks had told the instructions he then told us to split into 3-4 even groups. My group I was told to be in was with 5 girls including me. For the first part of the activity was to make a slingshot and shoot a paper ball at a bucket that has a sign of points in front of the bucket.

Running around everywhere through the medow field finding clues of what to bake was another part of our activity. Our group of five had splited up to find the clues so...the first clue our splited group of 3 we’ve found was a plain metal bucket by a tall tree. Once we've found that clue the next step was to run across from the field onto the ptengland reserve and that is where we have found the next step of the clue and that was a pile of wood rapped in a plastic bag. Finally the stage of this activity was done dissapointedly our group came back at the wrong time so we were instructed to run around the whole field getting all the laminated posters showing all the directions on it but once we've got back our clues was to bake a egg out of all the clues we've found. And so..that was the end of activity ‘Amazing Race’.

Netball Session.

As our class arrived to the netball courts we met a lady named ‘Liz’. She was our coach for the week. Once we got started she told us much more about herself then we got our legs going. What we did first was we had to exercise therefor was chest passing. chest passing was easily prepared. all we had to do was to mark the ball across our chest, then throw it to our partner across from us, then our partner would do the same thing.

After a while we were on for the game of netball! Once we started we were splited into two groups, Bibs. & No Bibs. The group i was put in was Bibs. Then we automatically started. Instead of us putting the ball in the hoop we instead were dropping it on to marked dots on each side of each 4 corners.

When it started the other group ‘No bib’s’ had the first ball. What we were trying to do was to try not let the person that had the ball not to get a goal so we had to try and defend her waving our arms in the air.

As the game had finally finished it was time to go so we said ‘bye’ to Liz and ‘thank you for teaching us much more about netball’ What a wonderful day of netball.

The Treaty .

In our class, Room Nineteen, Us students have been studying a lot about The Treaty of Waitangi. What iv'e learnt so far was that the Europeans traded in there muskets for the Maoris Food, Also, The Europeans have been involved in Whaling and Sealing and that the signing finally was signed on the 6th February 1840 by William Hobson and the 34 Chiefs.

That was a lot of information about Waitangi Day and the signing.

First day of school.

Its a new year and i had returned back to school as a year 8, This year for 2012 I am in the class Room 19 of Mr Harris. On the first day us students worked on a worksheet that wanted us to be seated comfortable with. After that we did another paper work and it was the Treaty of Whaitangi. What i learnt on that sheet was the signing , Queen Victoria and other facts. Once we finished that we played a mini game of hangman. It was really difficult figuring out the words but atleast we had fun. What a new start to the year.
