Tangata Pasifika

It was a shock getting our class picked to be on " Tagata Pasifika ". When i just heard i was nervous because i might get the tinglies & dont even know what to say in front of the camera.

When they came in they had first introduced themselves & the one that first introduced themselves was "Okensene". Okesene was the one that comes up to us & says "Whats it to you about Christmas" my first explanation to that question was "getting the whole entire family on to the table and getting to know eachother very well".

Once they were going through all the students in our class they had gotten all the footage that they needed & they said "all there fortage will be on Tagata Pasifika channel one & said there last farewells & left.

That was a thrilling morning with the show "Tagata Pasifika".

My Reflection About My Netbook

It was the first year for the year 5's & up to spend alot of time on their netbooks. On the 2nd term we were given an opportunity to take our netbooks home so we can finish unfinished work or work on our homework progress.

What i like most about the netbooks is that we dont usually get sore hands after typing into our docs.

Comparing our learning from last year to this year has really changed by how many hours it take to write in our stationary when it takes at least some minutes to type on our netbooks a full 3 or more paragraphs.

It was really tempting getting our own netbooks.

From the past holidays.

Preparing for the last past weeks my aunt and I had went to Sylvia Park to goto the movies. Once we got there our movie we were going to watch had been sold out so we watched a other movie named "The Smurfs". Standing at the counter waiting for a big bucket of popcorn, a delicious chocolate ice-cream and a large drink of coke I saw the game section waiting for me to play on but technically, my aunt wouldn't give me any money so I had just stand there and stared. Finaly it was time to head out to our movie and as I saw we had sat'n in front of the thetre, sitting on bean-bags and looking up onto a big screen and that I was grabbing a big chunk of popcorn.

Once the movie had started it was uncomfortable sitting on the bean-bags so I couldn't be bothered resting peacefully on the floor. When the movie had finally finished, My aunt and I had ran out the door as quickly as possible so no-one would have noticed we made a big mess with the popcorn all over the ground.

It was a really interesting day/night for us.

Our Thinking skill activity.

In the middle of the morning us students, Room 22, had done a thinking skill for our activity for the day. To do this activity we had to be in groups of 3 and to be given 5 green items on a card and so in our group our items was: a Hair Brush, a Video Tape, a Lunch Box, a Kete (kit) and a Tennis Racket. Another card that was given was one yellow card to solve the problem, our problem on the card was 'How to make a butterfly house?' out of those items. It was really a tough problem because we had to make the butterfly house out of those items 'logical'. Sadly our group didn't pass but the group that did was Maree's, Awhina's and David's Group.

This was fun doing this activity.

The last week or so

Its the last week of the term and us students have been really busy getting our production ready and other things around our school. When they have been getting prepared some of our students from our classroom have been shifting around to other senior classes from those students that isn't in the production because our teacher (Ms Tito) is the producer in a tribal dance group for all the senior students in the performance so that's why we have to split up and move to other classes so Ms T has space to work with her group. What we do getting shift around is we take our netbooks and work on a site for maths called 'Maths Whizz' or we do blogging.

Its so thrilling seeing the term go so quickly.

Maths Whizz

Room 22 has been learning on a site for maths, Maths Whizz. From the last couple of weeks my strategy for the site is to know how to do addition with pencil and paper. So on the side here is a snapshot of how i did my strategy.

From the last couple of weeks our class, Room 22, had a student teacher named Nina Richards from Waikati University. Last Friday was a special day because it was Mrs Richards last day so for her last day half of our class had baked dumplings and a whole lot that i can't even imagine. At the end of the day our fresh baked food was ready for our class to gobble up. (Yummmm)

THANK YOU MRS RICHARDS FOR THOSE WONDERFUL DAYS YOU TAUGHT US.

Our school champions.

Last week, our 7s rugby team went to an Aims Tournament to verse other rugby teams from different schools. When they came back from the Aims Tournament we were loud and proud of our boys for doing their best and becoming champions. the team brought back several medals and the Aims Cup.

Mr Burt held an assembly for welcoming them back. Most of all whats more important for them is just to have fun, it doesn't matter if you win or lose. (that goes out to viewers who plays rugby)

Once again nice going guys!

Badminton

On the 4th of August 2011 us students from Room 22 had a game session after our Friday assembly.

Once we headed out to badminton was we had to sit down and hear the coach introducing herself and some things we knew about her was her name was Laureen and plays in the Auckland badminton club. once she was finished being introduced to us we were all ready to play our first activity and that was: control the shuttle.

What we done to control the shuttle was to focus on the shuttle by hitting it softly with the racket and for the shuttle to not land on the floor.

The second activity we had done was to hit the shuffle into the bucket. It was kind of difficult to hit it in but it was worth a try. On that same activity Laureen told us that it was a competition between the half of the circle we made. The competition that was done for us was we had to see how much people on the half of the side or our side to hit as many shuffles into the bucket so we counted by shouting/yelling out how many they got in.

The next activity was we had to grab a partner,a cone, a shuffle and a racket. My partner had to grab the cone and the shuffle and well i had to grab the racket. What our partner had to do with the shuffle and cone was he/she had to throw the shuffle and aim for the person holding the racket for it to hit it and for the partner holding the cone to catch the shuffle into the cone.

And finally the last activity for our Friday morning. In our partners we needed two rackets for my partner and me and one shuttle. This last activity we had done was slightly like our other last session but without a cone. The simplest thing we had to do was I had to throw the shuttle to the other partner and my partner had to hit it under her legs.

It was really good to know about some sport i haven't even done.
Thank you Laureen.

My slide show from our last rugby league session

My highlight for this term

My highlight for this term was making prototypes for the senior block design process, plus working hard at making my writing make sence. Another thing that reminded me of is learning my mihi mihi from a task that was given to our students in Room 22 to re read it for in the mornings. I would hope to work on at getting good marks for my report next term.

Emilee the design process for designing furniture for the street.

In this session the whole senior block had found a solution to make our street more interesting so...... this is what we came up with, an idea to add furniture to the street so visitors or other members would see our wonderful street looking funky.

The first step we had to do on our design process was to identify a need. What our class had identified was that some students were’nt respecting the street so on the net we had to research a furniture that everyone would enjoy.

The next step after finishing research was to generate ideas. What we had generated was to modify the nets design to make it our own. Once we had rearranged the design was we had to find a solution to how it can be made and what it will be made out of.

When we had finished finding a solution the next step was to reflect on our own design. What we done for reflect was to make a prototype of our design to see what it would look like.

And finally the last step on our cycle,Evaluate, what we have to do for evaluate was to asses on how did i/we do from the past couple of weeks we’ve been doing on this interesting task.

Rugby League Session

On Wednesday 22nd June 2011 us,Room 22, Went out for a League session. We had a league session to try out our thrilling skills. We tried out our skills with one of a amazing person from the 2011 Vodafone junior warriors squad and his name was Sio.
Just before we were about to start the session with Sio we were put into a little group from 1 to 8 or 1 to 7 then we were ready to start.

The first lesson we did was in and out. In and out is running round the cones with a little rugby ball from the start to the end and sprinting back to the other person where they are waiting to have a turn.

The other lesson we did was zig zag. Zig zag is the same as in and out but we zig zaged around each players in our group.

The last lesson we did was rugby tennis. Rugby tennis is trying to kick the ball over the other teams shoulders letting them try to catch it.

When it was time to go we had one more round of tennis rugby and headed to our classroom with a great goodbye to Sio. It was a wonderful warm up for us to get our skills started and to participate in any sport for this term.

Science Roadshow

On the 9th of June 2011 us,Year 7s and 8s, walked to Tamaki Collage for a Science Roadshow for our topic this term(bigger better, faster, stronger). Before we headed off we were put into a small group so that our class students don't run off everywhere around the entire exhibits.

Once we got there we had a sit to listen to the people showing their presentation of science. When they had finished we headed off to a couple of inventions trying out different exhibit. The exhibit our group tested on was named Big Ear. Its like a satellite dish talking into it transferring the talking to a phone where someone is waiting to listen.

Another Presentation was called so we had another sit before it was time to go back to school. The scientists was talking about our senses. The senses we have are really good named eyes, ears, taste, smell and feel. Once it was time to go we said goodbye to the scientists(Jane and Paul)and we left. We were headed out into our group lines and started walking back to school. It was a good day for our school morning/afternoon.

The Design process

Why is generating ideas important?
generate ideas is important because its bringing different ideas to make a experiment.
we generate ideas to plan out some ideas making something creative.
the creative thing we do is using different material for a NO LITTER sign.
the material we use is metal, wood, paper, cardboard and others that i can’t even imagine.

In this process our class,Room 22, has been learning to do a sign for the students at our school to STOP LITTERING!
thats why up above I was talking about how generating ideas is super important.
In the year 7s and 8s classes we have a cycle going by 6 steps. the 6 steps are identify a need, research, generate ideas, find solutions, reflect and evaluate. So when we do all those wonderful 6 steps the are it finished for everyone to see.

In this need I would want to help everyone to pick up their rubbish when they need to.

Swimming

At the Glen Innes pools us,Yr 7s & 8s,had been taught from our teachers to do our swimming sessions for the last two weeks from Monday to Thursday. At 2.p.m we leave once we had finished our lunch. Once we are at the pools we put on our togs and head for the showers for a warm up.

On the first day when we had slowly dipped in the first lesson we were taught was freestyle. What we know about freestyle is fingertips. How we did it is putting your arms in a angle, sliding the fingers slowly above the hips then reaching out. Another thing we know about freestyle is your legs when you are swimming. Your legs always go all over the place so its possible to make your legs go straight for no accidents.

The next lesson we did was backstroke. What we did for backstroke was we just went normally going backwards.

On the last day we were still practicing our swimming skills and ‘GUESS WHAT’ we got gooder and gooder everytime so its important to know if your doing good or still need practicing because we are surrounded by water and to not drown when it really comes.

Braille

Talofa Lava my name is Emilee and I want to tell you about 'Braille'.
In our reading sessions our group,Kiwi, has been learning about Braille. What we know about 'Braille' is that its raised by dots to help the blind read.(instead of reading it the blind feels the dots). It was invented by the inventor 'Lewis Braille'.

It was really interesting learning with our group about 'Braille' and so many wonders about 'the blind'

Toanga Time

On Fridays the year 7s and 8s have a special thing to goto and its named Taonga Time. Taonga
Time means treasure for all of yous that don't know what it means. We do these sort of thing to learn about different passions of our wonderful teachers.

Each term we move on to another group that has different themes. Our themes is Kapa Haka which Ms T takes, sports which Ms Vaa fusuaunga takes, Music what Mr J takes and other sorts that is so long to say. One of the themes I am in for this term is Music with Mr J. Last Friday we had to do a task to do on our computers. It was so frustrating to do but at least I got some work finished.

I feel very pleased to be in a group with lots of experience.

My Values DLO Term One

Last term our class was studying about values. My value was the word learning. I was really shocked of how I saw my DLO results. So this term I am trying to focus more often to get a higher result.

My Creative Name

In room 22 we have been learning about the word creativity.
As a part of our research we know about creativity is that its bringing your ideas to create a whole new design. When we had studied about creativity our class did a project of working on our name in a creative way. So this is how I did my creative name.

This is my Creative Name:

Term One Relflection

pleased: Homework

One of the things I was pleased with was my homework assignments Last term.
I was given good grades for my work habits, behavior and academic progress.
It was surprising to see my results and reckoned I would do better.

Improve:Writing
bad

What I would like to improve on is my writing.
Last term my writing was totally BORING! and people would just stop reading.
So This term I would want to work a bit harder by hooking people into my writing.

Overall:how my term went
disappointing

My term went well but I haven’ t been completing the tasks I needed to do.
I would want to archive more by focusing and taking charge of myself.

These are my DLO results:
